Equine Rescue supports the City of Aiken and Aiken County when they are faced with the need to confiscate horses for their protection. We also support the city and county Pre-Trial Intervention Program (PTI) by allowing offenders to earn community service hours at our facility. The PTI program is a diversionary tool designed for first time offenders of non-violent crimes, which allows them to avoid a criminal record by completing counseling, education, community service work, restitution, drug testing and prison tours. We are glad to participate because we think this program provides many young people with a learning opportunity during a formative period in their lives, so that they can achieve their full potential as adults. Our vision is a world in which all youth succeed in life while feeling valued and respected.

We offer the greater Aiken County area a unique and beautiful destination for special events. Some of these include Volunteer Youth Day, Education Workshops, school and church visits, weddings, and other events that are intended to be equine centered. Each group we have hosted has increased their awareness of horses, while sharing an enjoyable experience with their families, friends, co-workers. Give us a call so we can help you plan an unforgettable experience for your group!

For safety reasons, volunteers must wear appropriate shoes (boots, heavy hiking boots, riding boots with heel if riding) if around the horses for grooming, walking, or riding. Tennis shoes or other light shoes may only be worn for duties such as cleaning, painting or non-horse related activities. No sandals or flip flops, etc. due to safety.

We also partner with the Saratoga War Horse program which assists military Veterans with PTS. Our role is to host two (2) sessions per month between September and May and to provide the open space, classrooms, training, and the horses needed at no charge. The veterans are paired with our off-the-track Thoroughbreds and are then taught to recognize the silent language of the horse. Through these proven training techniques, a mutual trust and profound bond is established that goes beyond verbal communication. The Saratoga WarHorse Program creates a win-win situation for veterans and off-the-track Thoroughbreds by providing an effective alternative method for healing emotional wounds and by offering the horses rewarding and meaningful work after their racing careers have ended. Veterans have described the Connection Process as “life changing beyond words.”

As documented on ESPN, CBS World Evening News and an award-winning documentary by HRTV, this is a program that works.

Please help financially support Equine Rescue of Aiken in its mission to rescue horses and to make our facility and horses available to Saratoga WarHorse.

The Aiken Community in all walks of life, including the Horse Community, welcome these Veterans into Aiken and thank them for their service.
